In A Doctorâs Footsteps

One thing lead to another, according to one Newtown studentâs mother, whose son recently spent three hours shadowing a local doctor.
During a ceremony of the Newtown Rotary Club, Newtown Middle School student Evan Isaacs earned the recognition of being one of the Newtown Rotaryâs Students of the Month for November, and Evan was given a card by club member Thomas P. Nipper.
Dr Nipper, a physician with Orthopedic Specialists of Connecticut in Brookfield, had Evan shadow him for three hours on Monday, January 19.Â
âI kind of liked all of it,â said Evan during a phone interview the week after his shadowing experience. Evan said he had the chance to watch someone who had fractured one of their knuckles get a cast.
Evan said he wants to go into a field of science, and his shadowing experience was helpful.
Evanâs mother, Robin, said Evan receiving the award from the Newtown Rotary Club lead him to being able to shadow Dr Nipper.
âHe just walked up to Evan at the dinner and gave him his card,â said Ms Isaacs, âI thought it was very nice of him.â
Without the Student of the Month award, Ms Isaacs said Evan, as an eighth grade student, would not have had the opportunity of shadowing a local doctor.
