Vandalism

Police said they received at least five reports of vandalized automotive glass in the Pootatuck Park area stemming from incidents that occurred there during the weekend of February 7–8.

In those incidents, someone intentionally damaged the windows on motor vehicles. Vehicles were damaged on streets including Pootatuck Trail and Narragansett Trail. Police estimate the overall damage at $3,100.

Police ask anyone with information about the criminal mischief to contact Officer William Hull at 426-5841, or via email at william.hull@newtown-ct.org.

NHS Drugs

Police report they arrested a 16-year-old male student at Newtown High School about 1 pm February 5, following a drug investigation.

Police said they arrested the boy on charges of sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of possession of narcotics.

The boy was arrested after he was found to be in possession of “a quantity of pills” that allegedly were stolen from a local residence, police said. The arrest came following a joint investigation conducted by school administrators, school security staff members, and the police’s school resource officer.

After arrest processing, police released the boy on a written promise to appear February 20 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.

Cellphone

According to a law enforcement report, police spotted Raymond Glowicki, 27, of New Britain driving in the Main Street area and using a handheld cellphone about 10:30 am February 8, after which they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Glowicki with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.

After he posted $250 bail, police released him for a February 24 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34) near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road about 3 pm February 7.

In that incident, motorist Jessie Ceccarelli, 78, of 10 Kaechele Drive, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV driven by Paul Parker, 44, of Poughquag, N.Y., police said.

Following that impact, the Jeep then struck the rear end of eastbound 1999 Ford SUV driven by Marya Geiser, 44, of 29 Swamp Road, police said.

Both Ceccarelli and Parker reported pain after the accident and were checked at the scene by volunteer ambulance staffers, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.

Police said they issued Ceccarelli an infraction for following too closely.
