Dual Accidents

About 3:20 pm February 3, motorist Keith Tomlin, 35, of 63 Great Ring Road, who was driving a 2003 Nisan Pathfinder SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Sherman Street, lost control of the vehicle due to slippery road conditions, after which the vehicle slid onto the westbound lane and then struck some rock ledge alongside the westbound road shoulder, police report.

Tomlin was not injured in the accident, police said.

A short time later, David Patton, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Freightliner FL-80 box-style milk truck westward on Berkshire Road, stopped for the stopped for the Nissan which had just hit the rock ledge, police said.

Westbound motorist Ryan Bertrand, 23, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse behind the milk truck, then applied his brakes and steered to the left to avoid a collision, but could not stop on the slippery road, lost control, spun around, and struck the milk truck, police said.

Neither Bertrand nor Patton were injured.

Police verbally warned Bertrand for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Also, police verbally warned Tomlin for traveling too fast for conditions in the initial accident.

Honda Into Pole

Motorist Kevin Bonacci, 17, of 125 Castle Hill Road was driving a 1999 Honda Accord station wagon on Castle Hill Road, near Old Castle Hill Road, about 5:30 pm February 4, when the Honda collided with a utility pole, according to police.

Bonacci was not injured in the crash, police said. Police verbally warned Bonacci for traveling unreasonably fast.

Asleep at Wheel

At about 4 am February 1, motorist Brigid Brown, 40, of Redding was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV southward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Elizabeth Street, when she fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the left side of the street, and then struck a utility pole and road sign before the Jeep came to rest in a drainage ditch, police report.

Volunteer ambulance staffers transported Brown to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Police said they verbally warned Brown for making an improper turn.

Slick Road

Motorist Jose Adames, 45, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Mazda 626 sedan westward near 186 Berkshire Road about 3:48 pm February 3, began sliding on the slippery road, police report.

Westbound motorist Khone Phommalinh, 56, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2003 Honda CRV sport-utility vehicle behind the Mazda, then attempted to slow down, but the two vehicles collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Phommalinh received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Adames received a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Police Chief Rear-Ended

Police Chief Michael Kehoe, 53, was driving his town-owned 2005 Ford Explorer unmarked police car northward on South Main Street about 9:39 am February 5, when he started to slow for traffic which was stopped on northbound South Main Street at the traffic signal at that road’s intersection with Sugar Street, Main Street, and Glover Avenue, police said.

A 2002 Dodge Neon sedan driven by Sharon Turpin, 47, of Norwich, which was traveling northward behind the Ford, did not stop in time and struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Turpin a written warning for following too closely.

Lincoln SUV

Motorist Gerard Capaldo, 47, of Harvest Common Road was driving a 2007 Lincoln SUV southward near 48 Queen Street about 10:26 pm February 2, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the vehicle, according to police.

Capaldo was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Slippery Surface

About 1 pm February 3, motorist Judith Lowery, 58, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Church Hill Road, near St Rose School, stopped for a traffic agent who was directing traffic there, police said.

Westbound motorist Caroline Frate-Markoe, 44, of Sarasota, Fla., who was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan minivan behind the Toyota, attempted to stop, but slid into the rear end of Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Frate-Markoe a written warning for following too closely.

SUV Vs Pickup

Motorist Jennifer Netter, 35, of Danbury was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward on Main Street and then stopped at its intersection with Academy Lane at about 2:13 pm February 3, after which southbound motorist Andrew Lapple, 16, of 1 Susan Lane, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SUV behind the Ford, slid into the rear end of the Ford on the wet road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Lapple for following too closely. Police issued Netter an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Off The Road

About 9:19 am on February 4, motorist Klaudija Ajdinoski, 27, of 101 Head O’ Meadow Road was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV westward on Sugar Street, when she slowed near Key Rock Road for some stopped westbound traffic, according to police.

But due to slippery conditions, the Chevrolet went off the westbound road shoulder, police said. Ajdinoski was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Truck Vs Truck

An accident involving two trucks occurred on Sugar Street, near Key Rock Road, about 11:23 am February 4.

Jose Rivera, 46, of White Plains, N.Y., was driving a 2005 Dodge Sprinter van westward, as Reginald Cherenfant, 33, of Rosedale, N.Y., was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi box truck eastward, police said.

The Dodge slid on snow and ice, went out of control, entered the opposite lane and collided with the Mitsubishi, police said. There were no injuries. Rivera received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

Audi Vs Snowplow

Police report that at about 8:15 am on February 4, motorist Jason Hsu, 46, of 17 Old Castle Road was driving a 2003 Audi A-6 sedan eastward on Wasserman Way at Fairfield Hills.

At that time, John Benvenuti, 45, of 18-B Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a town-owned Ford F-376 truck with a snowplow attached to it, was stopped at a red traffic signal while facing northward on Trades Lane, police said.

The Audi then attempted to make a right turn onto southbound Trades Lane, but slid on the icy roadway and collided with the snowplow, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Hsu for traveling too fast for conditions.

Queen Street Collision

About 10:50 am on February 4, a two-vehicle collision occurred near 5 Queen Street in the borough, according to police.

The Queen Street accident involved motorist George Foster, 49, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 International truck, and motorist Mark Klass, 34, of 24 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2001 Acura Integra coupe, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Foster for making a restricted turn. Klass received a verbal warning for failure to renew a driver’s license, according to police.

I-84 Crash

State police report that motorist Blanca Chimbo, 41, of Waterbury was driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, in the vicinity of The Boulevard overpass, about 3:10 pm February 3, when she lost control of the vehicle on the icy roadway and struck some concrete barrier railing along the right road shoulder.

Chimbo was not injured in the collision.

Highway Collision

A one-vehicle accident occurred on a slick eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 3:30 pm February 3, state police said.

Motorist Michael Robinson, 20, of South River, N.J., lost control of a 1999 Saturn SL-2 that he was driving, went into a spin, and then struck some metal-beam guardrailing on the highway median, state police said.

Robinson was not injured. State police said they warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Icy Road

Motorist Ryan Ross, 23, of Danbury was driving a 2001 Volkswagen GTI eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 7:50 pm February 3, when he drove from the center lane to the right lane, but in doing so slid on the icy, snowy, slushy road surface and then struck some metal guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Ross was not injured. State police said they issued him a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Multiple Charges

A Waterbury man is facing five charges following a February 2 incident on Interstate 84, state police said.

State police said they spotted motorist Ariel Peralta, 22, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV with a marker plate that was poorly affixed to the rear of the vehicle, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police said the marker plate in question had been reported stolen from Waterbury.

After investigating, state police charged Peralta with driving an unregistered vehicle, illegal possession of a marker plate, failure to have automotive insurance, second-degree forgery, and also with a driver’s license violation.

Peralta then posted $5,000 bail for a February 26 court appearance, according to state police.

Vandalism

Police said they received at least five reports of vandalized automotive glass in the Pootatuck Park area stemming from incidents that occurred there during the weekend of February 7–8.

In those incidents, someone intentionally damaged the windows on motor vehicles. Vehicles were damaged on streets including Pootatuck Trail and Narragansett Trail. Police estimate the overall damage at $3,100.

NHS Drugs

Police report they arrested a 16-year-old male student at Newtown High School about 1 pm February 5, following a drug investigation.

Police said they arrested the boy on charges of sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of possession of narcotics.

The boy was arrested after he was found to be in possession of “a quantity of pills” that allegedly were stolen from a local residence, police said. The arrest came following a joint investigation conducted by school administrators, school security staff members, and the police’s school resource officer.

After arrest processing, police released the boy on a written promise to appear February 20 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.

Cellphone

According to a law enforcement report, police spotted Raymond Glowicki, 27, of New Britain driving in the Main Street area and using a handheld cellphone about 10:30 am February 8, after which they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Glowicki with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.

After he posted $250 bail, police released him for a February 24 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34) near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road about 3 pm February 7.

In that incident, motorist Jessie Ceccarelli, 78, of 10 Kaechele Drive, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV driven by Paul Parker, 44, of Poughquag, N.Y., police said.

Following that impact, the Jeep then struck the rear end of eastbound 1999 Ford SUV driven by Marya Geiser, 44, of 29 Swamp Road, police said.

Both Ceccarelli and Parker reported pain after the accident and were checked at the scene by volunteer ambulance staffers, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.

Police said they issued Ceccarelli an infraction for following too closely.

Plow Hits Tree

About 8:30 pm February 3, James Miller, 38, of Clearview Drive was driving his 2003 Ford pickup truck, which had a snowplow attached, northward near 164 Huntingtown Road, when he encountered a “white vehicle” that was traveling southward on the street, police said.

Miller swerved to avoid that vehicle, but the Ford went out of control, entered the opposite lane and then struck a tree, police said. Miller told police that the white noncontact vehicle continued traveling southward.

Miller was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Truck Hits Pole

Police report that trucker Guadalupe Ramirez, 34, of Pharr, Texas, was driving a large 1997 Freightliner truck westward on Sherman Street and was making a right turn onto Sugarloaf Road about 8:40 pm February 10, when the truck collided with a utility pole.

Ramirez was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for making an improper turn.

Burglary

Sometime overnight on February 10–11, someone forcibly entered Office Suite 313 at the Rocky Glen Mill office building at 75 Glen Road in Sandy Hook, police said.

It does not appear that anything was stolen in the break-in, police said. The incident constitutes third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.
