Season Of Epiphany At Trinity Church
Season Of Epiphany At Trinity Church
Members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown celebrated the sixth Sunday of the Season of Epiphany during an annual intergenerational event.
Epiphany celebrates the manifestations or the showing forth of Christ to the world. The church school students have been learning about the seven manifestations of Christ, according to Sue Vogelman.
After the church service, members of the congregation had to take off one of their shoes before entering the undercroft for the special event. Then the shoes were filled with âpresentsâ by the children. Cake was served and if a jellybean was found in a piece of cake you were named king or queen. There were four â Queens Jessica DiVanno and Katie Miller and Kings Michael Brill and George Trudell.
Once the queens and kings were named, they had to find the owners of each shoe. Taking off the shoe represented the difficult journey the kings made to Bethlehem.
The feast of Epiphany happens each year 12 days after December 25. Epiphany comes from the Greek word meaning âshowing forth, appearance, manifestation, revelation,â and is an eight week celebration, according to Mrs Vogelman. It proclaims the good news that Jesus showed God to all humanity.
Then groups, Baptism of Jesus, Visit of the Magi, Wedding at Cana, Fisherman Made Disciples, Jesus the Teacher, Jesus the Healer, and Transfiguration of Jesus, performed for the queens and kings to entertain them.
