Neiman Elected President Of Newtown Housing For The Elderly
Mike Neiman of Newtown has been elected president of Newtown Housing for the Elderly (NHE) by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors. Mr Neiman has been a board member since 1985, having served on the Building Committee, as treasurer, and as vice president.
Mr Neiman replaces Joe Borst, who was unanimously congratulated and thanked by the board of directors for the three successful years he served as NHE president.
Newtown Housing for the Elderly owns and operates Nunnawauk Meadows, a 120-unit housing complex for the elderly of low income, located on property formerly part of state-owned Fairfield Hills. There are approximately 150 residents at this time. The entire complex, situated on over 30 acres, is self-managed by the NHE Board of Directors.
Also elected were John OâByrne, vice president; Tom Goosman, secretary; and Jeane Roberts, treasurer. George Mattegat, who has been an NHE member, was elected to the Board of Directors.
Funding is through government mortgage loans. Since the complex is for the elderly of low income, money cannot be allocated for social activities such as the outdoor concerts that are run in the summer months and this funding is dependent on public donations. Any persons or company wishing to make a donation to assist in these concerts, which are open to the public, are urged to visit the office on Nunnawauk Road or call 426-5000.
