Accident Yields Six Charges Against Hawleyville Man
Police report they lodged six charges against a Hawleyville man, including driving under the influence, following an accident on the night of February 9 on Route 302.
At 7:18 pm, police received a report of an accident at the intersection of Route 302 and Head Oâ Meadow Road.
Police said motorist Robert L. Abric, 29, of 17 Farrell Road, Hawleyville, was driving a 1986 Ford pickup truck westbound on Route 302, two vehicles behind westbound motorist Alexander J. Danka, 48, of 1 Crown View Drive, Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1993 Ford Thunderbird. The Thunderbird contained two passengers.
As the Thunderbird was turning left to enter Head Oâ Meadow Road, the pickup truck allegedly passed it on the left in a no-passing zone, striking and damaging the left front side of the Thunderbird, police said. The collision also damaged the pickup truck, police said.
The pickup truck reentered the proper lane after the collision and continued onward, police said. There were no injuries in the accident, police said.Â
At 7:56 pm, police spotted Abric traveling eastbound on Route 302 in Dodgingtown, about two miles west of where the accident occurred.
The pickup truck had two flat tires on its right side, police said.
After police stopped the truck, they gave Abric field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.
Police transported Abric to the police station where they charged him with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, passing in a no-passing zone, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to display a marker plate, and failure to carry a driverâs license.
After processing, police released Abric on a written promise to appear February 23 in Danbury Superior Court to answer to the six charges before a judge.
