Newtown High School’s wrestling team had three individual champions and came in second in the South-West Conference Championships, at New Milford High on February 12.

New Milford won with 181.5 points and Newtown scored 171. Pomperaug of Southbury was third with 140.

Nighthawks to come out on top were Ben Plaue in the 120 pound weight division, Luca Manfredi at 132, and Fisher Stites at 170.

Finalists who placed second were Tommy Milligan at 106, Kenna Gioffre at 113, and Marc Maurath at 138.

Acea Shaham came in third, and Greg Gargano, Jeffrey Gonzalez, and Chris Rice were fourth. Rice stepped in for an injured teammate and was Newtown's first wrestler to reach the podium.
