Snapshot: Fran Wong
Occupation: I am the administrative assistant for St Rose of Lima School. I've been here since September 2014. I love working at St Rose. It's such a nice place to work. Before this, I was working in real estate.
Family: My husband is Neil. We've been married 18 years. Our two children are Alex, who is in ninth grade at Newtown High School, and Laura, in eighth grade at Newtown Middle School.
Pets: My dog is Snooky. She's a pug and she's precious. She's about 5 years old.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We've been in Newtown for ten years. We're both from New York. I'm from Yonkers, and Neil is from Pawling. I love Newtown.
What do you like to do in your free time? Mainly, we do a lot of family stuff. We always seem to have a family gathering. I'm a gardener. I grow flowers, mostly, and I've installed a lot of trees and flowering shrubs on our property over these ten years. I do love the outdoors and love to hike. We like to travel to Maine, and hike the trails there. I've also been a Girl Scout leader for nine years. I'm so glad my daughter is still involved in Girl Scouts.
Do you have a favorite flower? I like everything, but hydrangeas are beautiful. I have three or four of them. I like anything, as long as it's pretty and flowering.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? I've traveled abroad to over 15 countries, but I'd say Florence, Italy, and London, England, are my favorite places. I spent time in Florence studying, and it's the art there that I love. In London, it's the theater district and museums.
What is the best thing about Newtown? It's beautiful here, the scenery. As I drive, I see a lot of beautiful gardens and open space. People here are really friendly and down to earth. I like that. And there's a lot to do here.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? I have to say, my husband. He's very smart and can figure anything out. I admire that. I find myself not giving up on things, and knowing that I can figure something out. And he's patient. He's a great father and husband, and a great cook.
If you could spend a day with anyone, who would you choose? I'm going to say my maternal grandmother. She was such a loving person. We spent a lot of time with her, growing up. It would be so nice to see her again.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Too many sweets! I do like them - ice cream, chocolates… And watching crime shows. Watching television is a guilty pleasure for me, because I just don't have time.
