Harold Arthur Lange, 94, of Sandy Hook, passed away at home, with family by his side, on February 9, 2022. Harold was born on August 15, 1927, in Mt Vernon, N.Y., to Harold and Lillian (Schaefer) Lange and was the oldest of five children.

Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Winterberg); their three children, Harold Frederick (Reema Sayegh) of Yorba Linda, Calif., Richard (Pamela Aposhian) of Winter Garden, Fla., and Kimberly Galgano (Robert) of Westfield, N.J.; three grandsons, Jason Lange (Natalie), Jonathan Lange (Channing), and Kyle Galgano; and his great-grandson, Briggs Arthur Lange. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Judith Godfrey, and her husband, Skip, of Cocoa, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Maureen Lange; and eight nieces and nephews.

At the age of 17, Harold left high school to join the Army at the tail end of World War II. After obtaining his GED, Harold earned an accounting degree from Pace University and a master’s degree from Columbia University. He worked at Colgate-Palmolive in corporate finance and retired in 1989 after a 27-year career traveling the world. He and Dorothy raised their family in Caracas, Venezuela, Manila, Philippines, Toronto, Canada, and Pleasantville, N.Y., before moving to Sandy Hook in 1998. An avid gardener, Harold raised orchids while in the Philippines and transitioned to designing rock gardens upon returning to the United States and was a member of the North American Rock Garden Society. He also took up acrylic and oil painting later in life, specializing in landscapes.

Harold was loved immensely by his family and his passing leaves a huge hole in everyone’s heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lillian, and his siblings Gerald, Gertrude (Trudi), and Robert.

Harold and Dorothy are long-time members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown. A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday, February 15, at 10 am, followed by a service at 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Harold’s name to Christ the King Lutheran Church, at ctklutherannewtown.org, or Regional Hospice of Danbury, at regionalhospicect.org.
