Head O’ Meadow Copper Tree Installed

The copper tree Head O’ Meadow school students, teachers, and staff worked together to create last week was installed in the school over the past weekend.

The art installation has taken root near the main entrance of the elementary school, on an outside wall of the school’s library.

The schoolwide project to create the tree started on Monday, January 24, when Bruce Hunter and his wife Joanne Hunter, co-owners of the Art Spot on Route 7 in Danbury, visited the school. Along with their son, Alexander, the Hunters walked each student, staff, and faculty member at Head O’ Meadow through the process of creating copper leaves for the installation.

The project comes one year after the Art Spot helped the school create a tiled four-panel installation of Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” Both last year’s project and this year’s project are sponsored by the school’s PTA.

As students entered the building on Monday, Head O’ Meadow Principal Barbara Gasparine said the students were full of excitement, with one student pointing out to his mother, “That’s my tree!”

The inspiration for the project, Ms Gasparine said, came from the school’s Character Development Tree, created by the Character Development Committee of the district’s Strategic Plan.

“It was a wonderful experience to be part of a larger community completing a project together, knowing that we each contributed to the creation of something that will be enjoyed by not only our current HOM students, staff, and families, but by future generations,” said Ms Gasparine.
