Concordia Choir Pre-Tour Feb. 20 Concert Planned

The renowned Concordia College-New York Tour Choir will be embarking on its spring tour from February 24 until March 4. The choir will be visiting Newtown before that, however, offering a free concert at Christ the King Lutheran Church that will be special for a few reasons.

For one, the performance will be one of three major events during the church’s 50th anniversary year. For another, the concert will include the premiere of a work, Lord Send Us Out In Peace, composed by Gregory Wismar, pastor of Christ the King.

The concert will be Sunday, February 20, beginning at 6 pm. The tour program, titled “Sing Alleluia,” will feature a wide variety of music from the Lutheran choral tradition to gospel, folk, and new music. The choir is accompanied by piano, hand bells, and percussion.

The Concordia College-New York Tour Choir has been touring the United States for more than 50 years. The Tour Choir consists of students from a variety of majors from across the college community. Each year the Tour Choir embarks on one or two separate domestic tours of the US.

The choir is directed by Dr Jason Thoms, director of choral activities at Concordia College-New York. The goal of the choir, according to Dr Thoms, is to “perform beautiful and challenging music with a strong message of faith and hope, and travel to communities around the US, sharing this message with schools and congregations.”

Christ the King Lutheran Church is at 85 Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown. For additional information contact the church office at 203-426-6300.
