Violation Issued In Tobacco Sting Operation
Police and state officials conducted a tobacco sales sting operation on February 8, in which a worker at one local business received a violation for the illegal sale of tobacco to a person under age 18.
Police said they charged Cynthia Fulton, 55, of 36 Capitol Drive with illegal sale of tobacco to a person under age 18, after she allegedly sold a package of cigarettes to an underage undercover agent at Misty Vale Deli & General Store at 51 Berkshire Road.
The underage undercover agent was working for the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, police said.
Police said the sting operation visited 23 local businesses on February 8 in seeking to make illegal tobacco purchases, but tobacco was only sold to the undercover agent at Misty Vale Deli. The infraction carries a $200 fine.
