Porcoâs Martial Arts Fundraiser
Porcoâs Karate in Sandy Hook will hold a Martial Arts fundraiser on Saturday, February 12, to benefit St. Judeâs Childrenâs Research Hospital. St. Judeâs is internationally-recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay. Contact Porcoâs Karate Academy at 426-2427 for further information.

Spin-A-Thon
There will be a Spin-A-Thon on Saturday, February 26, from 8 am to 4 pm, at the Danbury Fair Mall to benefit Hospice and Home Health Services. All participants will receive a t-shirt, water bottle and spinning towel. For further information, call Fitness Revolution at 740-0282.

Free Soccer Skills Clinics
The Newtown Soccer Club will be offering free skills training to registered players in the U8, U9 and U10 brackets of our in-house division. Brian Neumeyer, varsity coach for the boysâ soccer program at Newtown High School, will lead the program. The free training will be held from 4 to 5 pm on February 14 and 21 for girls and February 28, March 7, 14 and 21 for boys. The NSC will also be offering a pre-travel training program (also to be run by Brian Neumeyer). This program is open to those players born August 1, 1995 through July 31, 1996. This program is also available to those players born August 1, 1994 through July 31, 1995 who may have tried out for travel this year and were not selected, or for those who may wish to try out for U11 in June of 2005. The cost of the program is $20 per player. Please make checks payable to Newtown Soccer Club and bring them to the first session. For both programs, all participants should bring a ball and water. Shin guards and indoor shoes or sneakers must be worn. No cleats will be permitted in the Hawley gym. The training will be held from 4 to 5 pm at Hawley School on the following Wednesdays â January 26, February 2, 9 and 16 for the girls and March 2, 9, 16 and 23 for the boys. Adventure Racing
An Adventure Racing Clinic â featuring discussion on pre-race training, putting together a team, and choosing the correct equipment â will be held Saturday, March 12, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Eastern Mountain Sports in the Danbury Fair Mall. Call 794-1043 to register.
Giants Benefit Basketball Game
The Danbury Police Explorer All-Stars will battled the New York Giants Alumni in a benefit basketball game on Saturday, February 26, at 7:30 pm, in the Danbury PAL gymnasium. In addition to the game, there will be opportunities for autographs and pictures with the players. Tickets will be available on the night of the game. Proceeds will benefit the young people of Danbury.
Connecticut Senior Winter Games
The 12th Connecticut Senior Winter Games will be held Tuesday, March 1, at Ski Sundown in New Hartford. Senior athletes from all over Connecticut will compete in the Downhill, Giant Slalom, Cross Country and the Snow Shoe races. All events will be run by the Ski Sundown staff and the Connecticut Ski Council.
