âSibley Bird Guideâ Editor To Speak In Derby
DERBY â The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, Inc, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protectionâs (DEP) Kellogg Environmental Center, will host a program titled âThe Making of the Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior.â
The presentation will be given by Chris Elphick, an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, who will talk about his role in the production of the popular Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior.
Mr Elphick will talk about his experiences as co-editor of that book with John B. Dunning and David Sibley. He will discuss the process of compiling the book as well as various topics of bird behavior covered in the book.
The program will be on Tuesday, February 15, at 7:30 pm at Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Avenue.
Mr Elphick is a research scientist at the University of Connecticut. His work focuses on the conservation and ecology of birds, especially in wetlands.
He is a scientific advisor for the Great Basin Bird Observatory and a coauthor of the forthcoming Nevada Breeding Bird Atlas. He also writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column, âSibley on Birds.â
Cost for the program is $4, payable at the door.
