Ram Hits Ram

Newtown Police report Kititakone Panasy, 53, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Ram 2500, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:50 am January 21. He was traveling behind a 2019 Ram 2500 owned by Kam Jhilal, 51, of Easton. Jhilal was coming to a stop for traffic ahead and Panasy rear-ended him.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Panasy was issued an infraction for failure to travel a reasonable distance apart.

Forced Off Road By Unknown Vehicle

Newtown Police report Mark Golding, 25, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was traveling northbound on Swamp Road at 7:36 pm January 24. An unknown vehicle, described as a dark colored sedan, was traveling southbound on Swamp Road. Golding said that the unknown vehicle crossed over his lane as he was negotiating a left-hand curve, causing him to leave the road left and strike a tree. The unknown vehicle then fled the scene.

Golding was transported to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries. Golding’s vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Hit Car Entering Drive

Newtown Police report Lucas Deandrade, 18, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Toyota Highlander, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 5:39 pm January 25. Charles Hawley, 35, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Subaru Impreza, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Deandrade attempted to make a left turn into a driveway and struck Hawley’s vehicle.

Both operators were transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Deandrade was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Hit Flagpole

Newtown Police report John Thomas, 42, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Nissan Titan, was traveling from Church Hill Road to turn left onto southbound South Main Street at 4:03 pm January 26. Thomas’ vehicle collided with the flagpole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Thomas was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Collision At Deli Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Paul Goslin, 40, of Stafford Springs, operating a 2015 Ford F350, was exiting the Mitchell Hawleyville Deli parking lot at 8:07 am January 27. Robert Marino, 56, of Middletown, operating a 2019 Ford Transit, was traveling north on Hawleyville Road. While turning left from the driveway onto Hawleyville Road, the rear of Goslin’s vehicle slipped, causing Goslin’s vehicle to strike the driver’s side of Marino’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The vehicles were not towed.

Goslin received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Parked Rental Truck Causes Collision

Newtown Police report Joseph Sorrentino, 35, of Danbury, operating a 2006 GMC Sierra, was traveling southbound on Currituck Road at 10:55 am January 28. David Fredericks, 53, of Stratford, operating a 2016 Ford F350 was traveling northbound on Currituck Road, negotiating a left-hand curve. An unoccupied International MV607 owned by Budget Truck Rental LLC, was parked in the southbound lane on Currituck Road. Sorrentino crossed the centerline to pass the rental truck, but did not see Fredericks’ vehicle in the oncoming lane. The mirror of Sorrentino’s vehicle struck the mirror on Fredericks’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Sorrentino was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane. The operator who parked the rental truck, Jerard Jackson, 37, of West Haven, was issued a verbal warning for improper parking.

Struck Bollard

Newtown Police report Tyree Robinson, 32, of Philadelphia, Penn., operating a 2017 Ford F650, was attempting to park at a gas pump at 4:25 pm January 28. While parking, he struck a bollard next to the pump.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Hit Tree From School Lot

Newtown Police report Jerimiah Stone, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Toyota Corolla, was driving southbound in the Newtown High School parking lot at 11:43 am January 29, and while negotiating a left-hand curve, went straight, traveled up a hill, and struck a tree.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Violation Of Probation Charge

Newtown Police report Kiana Diaz, 27, of Newtown, turned herself in at the Newtown Police Department on an active arrest warrant at 3:38 pm January 29. She was charged with violation of probation.

Diaz was released on a $5,000 cash bond and given a court date of February 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Improper Passing

Newtown Police report Felicia Buehler, 28, of Trumbull, operating a 2015 Ford Edge, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 7:32 am January 30. James Lepore, 22, of Seymour, operating a 2001 Freightliner FL60, was attempting to turn right into 219 South Main Street from the northbound lane of South Main Street. Lepore had his right turn signal on but had to turn from the left portion of the travel lane to make a wider turn into the narrow driveway. Buehler attempted to pass Lepore on the right and Lepore’s vehicle struck Buehler’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Buehler was issued a verbal warning for improper passing and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Rear-Ended At Red Light

Newtown Police report Colleen Sylvia, 63, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Dodge Charger, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 6:12 pm January 30. Suzanne Boccuzzi, 70, of Southbury, was stopped at a red traffic light in the northbound lane of South Main Street at the intersection with Botsford Hill Road. Sylvia was unable to stop in time, and rear-ended Boccuzzi’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Sylvia was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Hit While Turning Left

Newtown Police report Alan Feldman, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Toyota Highlander, was stopped westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at a private driveway, waiting to turn into it. Taylor Matzke, 31, of Redding, operating a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Feldman turned in front of Matzke, causing Matzke’s vehicle to strike his own.

Matzke and a passenger were both transported to Danbury Hospital for possible minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Feldman was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while turning left and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Also Hit Flagpole

Newtown Police report Ann Sunderland, 85, of Southbury, operating a 2023 Hyundai Venue, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 11:34 am February 2. While turning left onto Main Street, Sunderland’s vehicle struck the flagpole.

No injuries were reported. Sunderland’s vehicle was towed.

Sunderland was issued a verbal waring for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Hit Open Door

Newtown Police report Casey Schnitzler, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Hyundai Kona, was driving in the parking lot of 30 Church Hill Road at 12:03 pm February 2. Megan Fuchs, 23, of Danbury, operating a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, was parking in a parking spot in front of Church Hill Physical Therapy. A passenger was exiting Fuch’s vehicle from the passenger’s side and Schnitzler’s vehicle struck the door.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Struck Roadside Garage

Newtown Police report Joseph Defreitas, 52, of Newtown, operating a Ford Thunderbolt, was traveling eastbound on Boggs Hill Road at 2:02 pm February 2. Defreitas ran off the roadway left and struck a garage structure located on the edge of the roadway.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Defreitas was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.

Near Head-On Collision Investigated

Newtown Police report Francis Turkson, 68, of Bridgeport, operating a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road at 3:26 pm February 2. Amado Flores, 28, of Bridgeport, was traveling northbound on Botsford Hill Road. The front end of Turkson’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side of Flores’ vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

Turkson, Flores, and two additional passengers were transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Witnesses are asked to contact Officer Mulhall at 203-426-5841.

Struck Support Pillar

Newtown Police report Glenn Rodriguez, 43, of Bridgeport, was in the parking lot of 170 Mt Pleasant Road at 9:46 am February 3. Rodriguez backed into a support pillar of a building on the property.

No injuries were reported. No vehicles were towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Slid In Driveway

Newtown Police report Robert Rossomando, 54, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 GMC Sierra, was attempting to drive down a driveway on Black Bridge Road at 10:45 am February 3. While negotiating a left-hand curve, due to snowy conditions the vehicle began to slide forward and to the right, downhill, and struck an unoccupied 2014 BMW 329xi owned by Thomas Speiser of Sandy Hook.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Collision In Bank Line

Newtown Police report William Brown, 69, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota, was in the drive up line for Newtown Savings Bank on Church Hill Road at 9:20 am February 4. He was stopped behind a 2018 Jeep Compass operated by Bonnie Litke, 49, of Sandy Hook. Brown told police he saw the brake lights of Litke’s vehicle light up, and assuming she was going to move forward, moved forward and struck Litke’s vehicle. Police say both drivers discussed the incident and Brown did not feel the incident required the exchange of information and left the scene. Officers obtained information on Brown and contacted him at his residence.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Evading Charge

Newtown Police arrested Tara Whyte, 38, of Bridgeport, at 5:30 am February 5, on the charges of evading responsibility for injury or property damage, and turning with no signal. She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of February 19 in Danbury Superior Court.
