Barbara A. Switzer, 88, died February 6, at her granddaughter’s home in Wilder, Vt. She was born September 21, 1925, in Weston, Conn., the daughter of Barbara (Burr) and Charles Newell.

Three daughters, Rebecca Sniadecki of Sandy Hook, Robyn Mackenzie of Selwyn, Ontario, Canada, and Bunny Switzer of Wilder; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Gleason and Beverly Newell; and several nieces and nephews survive Mrs Switzer. Her husband, William Switzer; twin daughter, Bonnie Switzer; and brother, Charles Newell, Jr, predeceased Mrs Switzer.

She grew up in Westport and worked for a short time at Woolworth’s Five & Dime in Norwalk before she was married. They first made their home in Weston and Westport, before they bought a home in Fairfield, where they live all their married lives.

Mrs Switzer worked as a childcare provider at the local YMCA in Fairfield. Due to her poor health, she moved to Wilder a couple of months ago to live with her daughter, and granddaughter and primary caregiver, Tracy Henry.

Barbara was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Fairfield and the VFW Auxiliary in Westport. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed baking, puzzles, and playing cards.
