Flagpole Crash

Police said that motorist Karen David-Argus, 45, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV about 2:45 pm on February 1, attempted to make a left turn from westbound Church Hill Road onto southbound Main Street, but struck the Main Street flagpole.

David-Argus was not injured. Police said they issued her an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Mailbox Vandalism

Sometime between 4 pm on January 29 and 1 pm on January 30, someone intentionally damaged a curbside residential mailbox at 90 Huntingtown Road, near that street’s intersection with Meadow Brook Road, according to police. The criminal mischief is under investigation. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Assault

Police said that Ambrosio Castulo, 21, of 3 Botsford Hill Road was involved in a minor altercation with a co-worker at Kolam, a restaurant at 316 South Main Street on the afternoon of February 4. The unidentified co-worker was transported to the hospital to be treated for an injury, police said.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Castulo with third-degree assault.

Castulo was released on a written promise to appear in  court on February 16, according to police.

Vehicular Damage

About 8 am on February 5, police received a call reporting that at approximately 12:30 am that day someone broke the window of a vehicle that was parked on Ashford Lane. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact investigating Officer Todd Dingee at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Meadowbrook Road, Pine Tree Hill Road, and Washbrook Road at about 5:44 pm on February 5.

Police report the accident involved motorist Elizabeth Urban, 16, of Monroe, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Outback station wagon northward on Pine Tree Hill Road, and motorist Austin Ekstrom, 17, of 81 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Meadowbrook Road.

The Subaru struck the Honda in the intersection, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Urban an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

SUV Vs Deer

At about 6:39 pm on February 3, motorist Deborah Zaccagnini, 59, of New Fairfield was driving a 2000 Infiniti QX-4 SUV northward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Sherman Street, when a deer ran out onto the street, resulting in a collision, police said. Zaccagnini was not injured. Police said they took no enforcement.

Three Vehicles

Three vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction collision on South Main Street, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road, about 5:13 pm on February 2, police said.

Motorist Rebecca Narel, 24, of 18 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2006 Honda Civic coupe northward on South Main Street and then stopped due to traffic conditions, police said.

Northbound motorist Junior DeJesus Rosario, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Subaru Impreza station wagon, then stopped behind the 2006 Honda, police said.

Northbound motorist Joanne Stephens, 56, of New Milford, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic coupe, then struck the rear end of the Subaru, pushing the Subaru into the rear end of the 2006 Honda, police said.

Rosario reported pain, but refused medical attention after the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. 

Police said they issued Stephens an infraction for following too closely. Police added they gave Rosario an infraction for driving without a license.

I-84 Accident

State police report that at about 5:18 am on January 29, motorist Josuel Reynoso, 24, of Lawrence, Mass., who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, veered off the left side of the roadway and struck some guardrailing.

Reynoso was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Chain Reaction

Police report that while traveling near 19 Toddy Hill Road at about 8:45 am on February 6, motorist Danny DaSilva, 28, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2007 Audi A-4 convertible, stopped for a line of traffic.

Motorist Thada Hussarungsri, 65, of 25 Button Shop Road, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-320 station wagon, then stopped behind the Audi, police said.

Motorist Anthony Chieffo, 48, of 83 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, then hit the rear end of the Mercedes, pushing the Mercedes into the rear end of the Audi, police said.

There were no injuries. Chieffo received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Boulevard Accident

Police report a two-truck accident near 37 The Boulevard at about 8:07 am on January 31.

The accident involved Amandio DosSantos, 51, of Danbury who was driving a 2009 Sterling truck owned by the Town of Newtown, and motorist William Brunetti, Jr, 36, of 77 Butterfield Road, who was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 truck, police said.

In the accident, the driver-side exterior rear-view mirrors of the two trucks made contact with each other, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement.

Warrant

Police report that on the night of February 1, they arrested James Dawson, 22, of Sherman at his home on a warrant, lodging a charge of failure to have automotive insurance in connection with a motor vehicle accident in Newtown last September 26.

Police said they released Dawson on $200 bail for a February 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Burglary/Larceny

Police received a report on the night of February 7 that a burglary/larceny had occurred at a home on Rowledge Pond Road, near the Monroe town line.

Police went to the scene to investigate and said they found that a large amount of jewelry and some electronic devices had been stolen in the incident. The loss is estimated at $25,000 in value, police said.

Key Found

Police said that on February 6, a key and an attached key fob for a Nissan-brand motor vehicle was found at the Fairfield Hills campus, near the Newtown Municipal Center. Police are holding the item for safekeeping and ask the owner to contact them at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim it.
