Goette Ochs

A Woman Of

Many Interests

Catherine Goette Ochs, 89, of Newtown, died at her home, February 4, with her daughter by her side. She was born in Hawkinsville, Ga., July 20, 1922, to Minnie Mae Schneider and Martin A. Goette.

She graduated from Georgia State College for Women with a bachelor of science degree in home economics and food management. She completed an internship as a hospital dietician in Cincinnati, Ohio, and began her professional career in Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs Ochs and her husband, Neil V. Ochs, who predeceased her, owned a dairy farm in Fort Recovery, Ohio, and later moved to Portland, Ind. She was a dietician at Jay County Hospital in Portland for 28 years. The highlight of her career was when the community built a new hospital in 1981, and she was active in the planning and development of the dietary department.

She moved to Newtown after her retirement to be near her family and enjoy the company of her family and grandchildren. She brought her many talents with her as she enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, and needlepoint. She was an avid fan of all sports and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in basketball and soccer. She also enjoyed vacationing on Tybee Island, Ga., with her grandchildren.

During her 15 years in Newtown, Mrs Ochs was blessed to be a member of the St Rose community, was a benefactor of St Rose School, a member of the Prayer Shawl group, and a member of Spiritual Journey. She especially gained support and strength from all her many friends of Bill.

She is survived by her loving daughter Rita Power and son-in-law, Michael; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 11, at 9 am, at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Interment will be private. Friends are invited to call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, between the hours of  5 and 8 pm, Thursday, February 9.
