WAA Exhibit Will Feature Collage, Drawing And Assemblage
WASHINGTON DEPOT â Washington Art Associationâs February exhibition features three women who work in three different mediums â collage, drawing and assemblage.
Flavia Bacarella, who says her two major influences are Chaim Soutine and Pierre Bonnard, has exhibited her paintings widely over the past 20 years. Ms Bacarella draws inspiration for her more recent work â collagesâ from her observations of life on the organic farm in rural New York, where she lives.
Bonner Cabot started a series of drawings seven years ago because of âthe need to see an unencumbered image.â She states that she was mesmerized by tone and its potential for expressing light. Her drawings succeed in capturing the clarity of shape and the density or the translucency of tone, her primary goal.
Assemblage by Mary P. Hawvermale evolved from her background in oil painting and photography and the many things she amassed as a collector. Her boxes, inspired by her experience working in art and science, are an evolution from photographic still lifes of insects.
The show will run through February 26 at Washington Art Association, in Bryant Plaza on Route 47.
