*SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION will bring music to sal e pepe, the recently-opened restaurant at 97 South Main Street in Newtown (in the former Compass location, within South Main Marketplace), this weekend.

Karl and Erica Schwichtenberg will be performing as a duo this weekend; Spontaneous Combustion also has the capacity to perform as a full band. The Schwichtenbergs will be performing classic rock and blues. Their show on Saturday, February 11, will start around 8 and there won’t be a cover charge to get in.

Spontaneous Combustion, by the way, has landed the opening set for a big show at the new music venue in the area. The band will be playing an acoustic set to open RICK WAKEMAN’s show at Premier Music Hall in Danbury on Friday, March 3.

Tickets for that show, which will be an all ages event, are $35 and on sale; call 866-384-3060 or visit PremierConcerts.com for details (see notes below for info on additional shows coming in to the Danbury location).

*Also locally, SUNDAD will be performing at Last Drop Coffee Show in Monroe on Saturday, also starting at 8 pm.

Sundad is made up of father and son guitarists John Eurell Sr and John Eurell Jr (get it? son-dad) and the multi-percussionist Chet Soares. Mr Eurell Jr is a Newtown resident, by the way.

The group is one of a new class of acoustic bands – and I’m taking this from their publicity now – “whose recordings and live performances are filled with eclectic rhythms, harmonies and chord changes. The original repertoire consists of mostly finger-style acoustic guitar instrumentals that have been described as ‘new age, world fusion’ and jam-band music.”

The coffee shop is at 435 Main Street (Route 25) in Monroe.

*A reminder that DUNCAN SHEIK is not only on the road with his full band to support his latest release, White Limousine, but also that he will be making his only Connecticut appearance right in our backyard later this month. Sheik will headline at Premier Music Hall in Danbury on Sunday, February 19.

David Poe and Jim Boggia will have opening sets. Doors will open at 6:30 and the music will start about an hour later.

Tickets are $18, and can be purchased in advance at Strawberries Music & Video stores, online at PremierConcerts.com, or over the phone at 866-384-3060 (Monday through Friday, noon to 8 pm). The hall’s box office is also open for in-person sales, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm.

Premier Music Hall is at 6 Delay Street, in the former Colorado Brewery building and diagonally across the street from the Patriot Street parking garage, so finding a place to park isn’t an issue.

Leading into that show, Premier Music Hall has plenty happening as well. This weekend will open with ERIC BENET on Friday, February 10, with special guest Amanda Dumas; BIG SHOT, playing the best of Billy Joel, will be in town on February 11, with Eric Nidal opening; THE MACHINE will open next weekend with an all ages show on Friday, February 17; and then THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS will perform on Saturday, February 18, with special guest Todd WOlfe. Tickets for all of those shows are on sale.

Later in the venue’s schedule, shows also on sale include MEDESKI, MARTIN AND WOOD on February 22; Jammy Award-winner THE BREAKFAST on Saturday, February 25, with Rolla opening; RICK WAKEMAN on Friday, March 3; THE FAB FAUX on Saturday, March 4; comedian LISA LAMPANELLI (“The Queen of Mean”) on March 10, with special guest Wendell; THE OUTLAWS on Sunday, March 12, with Blackberry Smoke opening; BOB WEIR AND RATDOG for two shows on Monday and Tuesday, March 20 and 21; and JOE BONAMASSA on Friday, July 7.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
