South Main Street

Police said that at about 7 am February 2, they pulled over motorist Colleen Caruso, 38, Brookfield, who had been driving on South Main Street, because they spotted a motor vehicle violation.

On investigating, police charged Caruso with failure to have a front marker plate, driving while under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, and misuse of marker plates.

After processing her charges, police released Caruso on bail for a February 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Motor Vehicle Charges

At about 11:30 am February 2, police spotted motorist Luis F. Campos, 33, of Bridgeport at 30 Zoar Road with a 1991 GMC Safari.

On investigating, police charged Campos with theft of marker plates and improper use of marker plates. Police said they learned that the marker plates in question had been stolen in Bridgeport.

After processing the arrest, police released Campos on $100 bail for a February 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

At about 6:38 pm January 25, police stopped motorist Jon Pereira, 22, of 87 Berkshire Road for not having working tail lamps on the vehicle that he was driving on Church Hill Road.

Police issued Pereira violations for failure to have working tail lamps and for driving while under suspension. Police released Pereira on $100 bail for a February 22 court appearance.

Audi Vs Ford

About 7:23 am February 3, motorist Samantha Ciaccia, 16, of 33 Swamp Road, who was driving a 1998 Audi A-6 sedan westward on Berkshire Road near Newtown High School, bumped into the rear end of a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Brenden Cologna, 17, of 4 Castle Lane, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Ciaccia a written warning for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Queen Street

About 11:30 pm February 5, police said they stopped motorist Richard Shuttleworth, 55, of Unit 107 at 100 Church Hill Road, who was driving on Queen Street. After investigating, police charged him with making a restricted turn, misuse of marker plates, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Shuttleworth on a written promise to appear February 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

I-84 Rollover

State police report that at about 11:48 am on February 2, the traffic that was traveling on westbound Interstate 84, about 2,000 feet east of Exit 9, slowed in speed, so motorist Joyce O’Neill, 58, of 11 Nutmeg Lane, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry, swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle.

In making that maneuver, the Toyota struck a highway reflector, went out of control, climbed a grassy embankment and then rolled onto its roof, state police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported O’Neill, who received a minor cut in the accident, to Danbury Hospital for observation, state police said.

Highway Crash

State police report that traffic traveling on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, came to a stop about 7:40 am February 1.

Motorist Deenauth Takdharie, 35, of Carmel, N.Y., who was driving a 1993 Toyota Corolla, attempted to stop the Toyota, but could not do so, and collided with the rear end of a 2003 Honda CRV driven by Alton Boggan, 50, of Simsbury, state police said.

That impact pushed the Honda into the rear end of a 2002 GMC Sierra driven by Andrzej Dziedzic, 34, of Cromwell, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Takdharie was following too closely.

Burglary/Larceny

On the morning of February 6, police arrested Stacy McCaffrey, 29, of New Milford on a warrant, charging her with third degree burglary, third degree larceny, and possession of narcotics.

Police said the charges stem from an incident that occurred at a Round Hill Road home sometime between September 30 and October 4.

The larceny charge involves the theft of items, including tools, valued between $1,000 and $5,000.

Police said they held McCaffrey on $15,000 bail for a February 6 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

Motor Vehicle Violations

Police report that on February 7, they charged Jeremias Calderon, 56, of Bridgeport with traveling too fast and with driving while under suspension. After processing the case, police released Calderon on a written promise to appear February 21 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Tailgate Gone

Sometime between 4:30 pm on February 5 and 11 am on February 6, someone stole a black tailgate designed for a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck from the premises at Newtown Exxon Service Center at 75 South Main Street. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 270-4360.

Warrant Executed

Police said that on February 7, at Danbury Superior Court, they served an arrest warrant against Melissa Saint, 36, of 14 Purdy Station Road, charging her with six offenses in connection with an incident that occurred last September 9 on Boggs Hill Road.

Police charged Saint with criminal impersonation, interfering with police, second degree forgery, driving while under suspension, traveling too fast, and failure to carry a driver’s license.

Saint was arraigned on those charges in court on February 7, police said.

Multiple Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Donald J. Brelling, 44, of West Haven, turned himself over to police on February 7, and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court.

Police additionally charged Brelling with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control signal, driving while under suspension, and interfering with police.

 The motor vehicle charges stem from an incident last September 27 in which Brelling allegedly drove through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84, according to police.

Police held Brelling on $10,000 bail for arraignment on the charges February 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Two Arrested

Police said they arrested two people who were traveling in a vehicle on Key Rock Road on the night of February 7.

Police said that at about 9:30 pm, they stopped motorist Ariana Martins, 22, of Danbury for driving in a vehicle which had no front marker plate. On investigating, police charged Martins with failure to display a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while under suspension, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police also investigated a passenger who was in the vehicle Martins was driving. Police charged passenger Robert Martinez, 27, of 4 Valley View Road with possession of a stolen credit card and with two counts of sixth degree larceny.

Police said they released each person on $100 bail. Both are scheduled for February 21 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

GMC Vs Cadillac

Eastbound motorist Philip Lefrak, 80, of Freeport, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon, was stopped on Osborne Hill Road about 8 pm February 8, in front of eastbound motorist Robert Gibbons, 41, of 8 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 2003 Cadillac CTS sedan, police report.

The GMC then rolled backward into the front end of the Cadillac, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Lefrak for unsafe movement.
