Swinging Into Town

Ross Tucker’s Hot Cat Jazz Band will swing into Newtown on Saturday, February 25, to present a fundraising toe tapping concert open to the public at Newtown Congregational Church.

The concert will begin at 7:30 pm, and is being sponsored by NCC’s Music Committee.

The performance will feature swing and New Orleans favorites, with vocals, such as “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Tiger Rag” and “Bourbon Street Parade.”

The band specializes in swing, big band jazz and classic rock music.  The repertoire includes standards of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington, numbers such as “Take the A Train,” “All Of Me” and “Satin Doll,” and big band hits of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey such as “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Sentimental Journey”, and “In the Mood.”

Hot Cat Jazz Band even covers classic rock songs including the music of James Taylor, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Simon & Garfunkel, Van Morrison, and the Beatles.

Ballad, waltzes, cha-chas, tangos, ethnic songs, group dances, and polkas are all part of the band’s repertoire.

Concert tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for ages 6 and under.
