DUI Warrant
Police report they took a local woman into custody at her residence on the night of February 1, charging her on a warrant in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred last fall.
Police said they charged Laura Gardner 26, of 9 Taunton Ridge Road with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.
Police have said that Gardner was driving a 2001 GMC Jimmy sport-utility vehicle northward near 110 Mt Pleasant Road at about 11:14 pm last November 16, when the vehicle swerved to the right and struck an embankment along the road shoulder. The GMC rolled and also rotated, striking a utility pole. The vehicle came to rest on its driverâs side, requiring that Gardner be extricated from the wreckage by firefighters, after which she was transported to Danbury Hospital.
On February 1, after processing, Gardner posted $100 bail and was released for an arraignment on February 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
Button Shop Mishap
Motorist Renee Solheim, 16, of 11 Harvest Common Road was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastward near 9 Button Shop Road about 9 pm February 1, when the vehicle went out of control, struck a curb, rolled over and then hit a tree, police said.
Ambulance volunteers transported Solheim to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation, police said.
Lancer Vs Sentra
At about 6 pm January 31, motorist Liam Cawley, 19, of 12 Sugarloaf Road was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra sedan westward near 33 Berkshire Road (Route 34), when he stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Westbound motorist Joseph Stromsky, 42, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, then struck the Sentra from behind, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Stromsky a written warning for following too closely.
Botsford Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the southern driveway for Sand Hill Plaza, a shopping center at 228 South Main Street, at about 6 pm February 3.
The collision involved motorist Steven Bowers, 19, of 3 Liberty Drive, who was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer, and motorist Doreen Donaldson, 57, of 24 Lyrical Lane, who was driving a 2000 Buick LeSabre, police said.
Ambulance volunteers transported Bowers and Ford passenger Edward DâAmico, 15, of 8 Lester Road, as well as Donaldson, to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible injuries, police said. Bowers received an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way.
Elm Drive Accident
Motorist Paul Andras, 17, of Poverty Hollow Road was driving a 1998 Honda sedan northward near 57 Elm Drive about 10:30 am February 3, when the vehicle slid off the snow-covered road and collided with a drainage catch basin, police report.
Andras was not injured. Police verbally warned Andras for making a restricted turn.
Heavy Damage
Sometime between 4 pm Monday, January 29, and 8 am Tuesday, January 30, someone vandalized a black Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicle, which was parked on the street near 73 Taunton Lake Road, according to police. The vandalism caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to the vehicle. The incident is case of first-degree criminal mischief, which is a felony.
Police ask anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them at 270-8888 or 426-5841.
Paintball Vandalism
Police report they charged three people each with third-degree criminal mischief and also with conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief in connection with some February 2 incidents of paintball vandalism in the area of Hanover Road and Pond Brook Road.
Police said that at about 5 pm they received several calls reporting incidents of paintball vandalism to houses in that area, so they went there to investigate. Police said they found the three people at a residence on Pond Brook Road, where they took them into custody.
Police charged Joshua Wilson, 18, of 7 Misty Vale Road; Vincent Guilfoil, 19, of 8 Glover Avenue; and an unidentified youth under age 18. The identity of people under 18 who are charged with crimes is shielded by state law.
Each of the three are scheduled to appear in court on February 16 for arraignments on the charges.
NHS Theft
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, an unidentified 17-year-old girl turned herself in at the police station on the afternoon of February 2 and was charged with sixth-degree larceny, police report.
Police allege that the girl stole another studentâs purse at Newtown High School on January 9. That incident prompted a police investigation which resulted in an arrest warrant.
The girl is scheduled to appear February 16 at Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identities of people under 18 who are charged with crimes.
Wasserman Way
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 about 9 am January 29, police said.
The collision involved motorist Ronald Reagan, 34, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1993 Ford Escort, and motorist Kathryn Sudbey, 18, of 1 Cider Mill Road, who was driving a 2001 Toyota 4-Runner, police said.
There were no injuries. Reagan received a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal, police said.
Snowy Road
About 7 pm February 2, motorist William Papazian, 47, of 28 Cedar Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, lost control of the vehicle on a snow-covered roadway at the intersection of Old Green Road and Valley Field Road South and then collided with motorist Lauren Sementilli, 22, of 10 Sleepy Hollow Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Papazian a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
Snowy Conditions
About 9:15 pm February 2, motorist Catherine York, 24, of Trumbull was driving a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner eastward on a snowy Botsford Hill Road, when an unknown vehicle turned onto that road from Swamp Road, police said.
York attempted to slow down, but the Toyota went into a skid on the slippery street and struck the supports for the Housatonic Railroadâs overpass above Botsford Hill Road, police said. The other vehicle kept traveling, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Intersection Crash
In snowy conditions, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Bennetts Bridge Road and Osborne Hill Road about 7:15 pm February 2.
Motorist Fatima Santayana, 44, of 20 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy downhill on Osborne Hill Road, applied the brakes to stop for a stop sign, but went into a skid on the snowy road and collided with motorist Steffan Burns, 49, of 10 Cider Mill Road, who was driving a 1995 Volvo 960 sedan on Bennetts Bridge Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issues Santayana a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.
Interstate Crash
State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 8 am February 5.
Motorist Clifford Anderson, 56, of Oxford, who was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300, slowed to a stop for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by motorist Walter Rosa, 47, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1993 Mercury Tracer, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said Rosa was following too closely and was driving without a license.
Volkswagen Mishap
When negotiating a curve on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 10:45 pm February 1, motorist Robert Corona, 19, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Volkswagen sedan, lost control of the auto and became involved in an accident, according to state police.
Corona was not injured. State police said Corona committed two motor vehicle violations.
Toyota Matrix
About 7:30 pm February 2, motorist Kerri Holick, 17, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Matrix on westbound Interstate 84âs Exit 9 off-ramp, spun around on the snowy ramp and struck some metal-beam guardrailing, state police said.
Holick was not injured. State police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Car Vs Deer
Motorist Grace Manheimer, 69, of Hanover Road was driving a 2000 Chrysler sedan southward on Hanover Road about 6:30 am February 6, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Manheimer was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
 Court Appearance
Police said they served an arrest warrant on the night of February 1 in Danbury against Marilyn Matschke, 50, of 39 Bear Hills Road, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court, third-degree assault, and breach of peace.
Police said that Matschke had failed to appear in Danbury Superior Court on January 16 in connection with pending charges of third-degree assault and breach of peace stemming from a December 23 incident in Newtown. Matschke was scheduled to appear in court on February 2.
Jeep Vs Hyundai
Police report a two-vehicle accident about 5:15 pm January 31 on Route 34, near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road.
Eastbound motorist John Slaney, 27, of Oakville, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Accent, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Marco Cignarale, 36, of New Milford, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander, police said.
There were no injuries. Cignarale received a written warning for following too closely.
Flat Swamp Crash
About 2 pm February 3, motorist Craig Mittleman, 46, of 25 Equestrian Ridge Road was driving a 2005 Audi S-4 sedan, which was carrying two child passengers, southward near 46 Flat Swamp Road, police said.
At that time, Anthony Mason, 22, of 50 Deep Brook Road was using a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck to plow snow at a driveway at 46 Flat Swamp Road, police added.
Mason told police that the truckâs brakes locked due to ice/snow conditions, causing the vehicle to slide onto the road and collide with the Audiâs right rear fender.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Mason for failure to grant the right of way. Police verbally warned Mittleman for failure to renew a driverâs license.
Boggs Hill Mishap
Motorist Reena Sahini, 46, of 28 Pine Tree Hill Road was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant sedan northward on a snow-covered Boggs Hill Road about 7:30 pm February 2 , when while negotiating a curve, the auto went out of control, drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree, police report.
Ambulance volunteers went to the scene to check the driver and the passenger, but did not transport them to a hospital, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Four Charges
On February 3, police charged Christopher Eissman, 25, of 24 Wills Road with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a suspended driverâs license. Police released him on $1,000 bail for a February 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
