âCHANGING FACES OF SHAKESPEAREâ AT CORCORAN GALLERY OF ART FEBRUARY 21
AVV 1-24 #685838
WASHINGTON, D.C. â The Corcoran Gallery of Art will present a program, âThe Changing Faces of Shakespeare,â on Wednesday, February 21, at 7 pm.
Organized in conjunction with the Shakespeare in Washington celebration, January to June, Erin C. Blake, curator of art and special collections at the Folger Shakespeare Library, examines, with images, the way in which Shakespeare has been depicted over the centuries and how the notion of what he should look like has changed throughout time.
His image (in some form or another) has saturated modern culture, and whether Shakespeare is in the guise of youthful genius, national icon or intellectual kitsch, he remains instantly recognizable. Dr Blake holds a PhD in art history from Stanford University and speaks both nationally and internationally on Shakespeare in art.
Admission for members is $15, public $20. Corcoran Gallery of Art is at 500 17th Street NW. For more information, www.corcoran.org or 202-639-1700.
