Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team bounced back from an 83-65 loss at Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on February 1 to pick up two wins, making it victories in five of six contests as the regular slate winds down.

Makai Coleman scored 25 points and Declan Regan had 15 points to go along with 17 rebounds in the Kolbe game. NHS defeated visiting Bassick of Bridgeport 66-38 two days later. Regan racked up another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Coleman and Andrew Grenier both logged 11 points.

The Nighthawks played great team defense in a 72-40 win over visiting New Fairfield on February 5. Coleman finished with 16 points, a dozen of which came in the opening quarter; Aidan Walker drilled a trio of 3-pointers and scored 13 points, and Regan dropped in nine points.

Newtown, following a visit to Masuk of Monroe on Thursday at 7 pm, hosts Pomperaug of Southbury Tuesday, February 13, and visits Brookfield Friday, February 16, both at 7 pm. Then it is on to the playoffs.
