‘Portraits Of Home And Beyond’

SHERMAN — Sara Bowman has been painting all her life. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Swain School of Design in Massachusetts, and her paintings consistently earn high honors at art shows and have been featured in several single artist exhibitions in New York and Connecticut.

Ms Bowman paints in oil, on canvas, using an impressionistic style. She is focusing on landscape and still life at this time, but has recently done commissioned renderings of several country homes for clients.

Her creative process is clearly expressed in her artist’s statement: “I feel most creative when I allow myself quiet time, usually in the mornings. I put on some background music and immerse myself in the process of painting. Often I’ll take time to simply observe color and form, the foundations of every painter’s work. Sometimes I find inspiration in other artists, discovering a new color palate or a different sense of light and composition. I believe we all have creativity within us, and that given time and space to think, feel and work, art will come.”

“Portraits of Home and Beyond,” a collection of Ms Bowman’s paintings, will be at the Sherman Library, 1 Sherman Center, through the end of February. Library hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
