Enforcement Activity
Police have listed the activities of their provisional traffic enforcement unit during the month of January.
The roads that were targeted for special traffic enforcement during January were: Toddy Hill Road, The Boulevard, Queen Street, Currituck Road, Washington Avenue, Main Street, Hanover Road, Butterfield Road, Meadow Brook Road, Wasserman Way, Taunton Hill Road, Old Hawleyville Road and Taunton Lake Road. Intersections which received special enforcement were Glen Road at Church Hill Road, Queen Street at Church Hill Road, and Currituck Road at Obtuse Road.
Patrol officers David Kullgren and Steve Ketchum conducted special traffic enforcement on day and evening shifts during the period.
Radar was often used to monitor motoristsâ speed because residentsâ complaints about speeding are numerous, police said in a statement.
Special enforcement included surveillance of traffic signals and stop signs. Also, seat belt violations, moving violations, and equipment violations were the targets of enforcement.
The traffic unit made approximately 140 motor vehicle stops during January.
Officer Kullgren worked with the policeâs tri-town traffic enforcement squad in Bethel on January 7. The tri-town squad covers Newtown, Bethel, and Redding. Its members visit each town periodically for special traffic enforcement projects.
