A Man Of Great Character
Kenneth Darrell Hensel, Jr, 48, of Sandy Hook, died unexpectedly February 1 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Karen (Eaton) Hensel and the beloved father to their children Kyle, Jordan, and Brandon.
Mr Hensel was born in Danbury on September 7, 1959, the loving son of Ruth (Dean ) Hensel of Newtown and the late Kenneth D. Hensel, Sr. A lifelong resident of Newtown, he attended Newtown schools and was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, Class of 1977.
Mr Hensel was the owner of Newtown Carpentry and Painting. He was a free spirited, hardworking family man. He preferred being outdoors and enjoyed riding ATVs with his boys, as well as boating and camping with his family. He enjoyed working with his hands and had a great talent for woodworking. He loved taking meticulous care of his vehicles and took pride in attending his sonsâ various activities.
Mr Hensel was a man of great character and would help anyone in his or her time of need without wanting anything in return. He will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
In addition to his wife, children, and mother, survivors also include a sister, Patty Powers and her husband, Steve, of Newtown; three brothers, Stephen Hensel and his wife Siobhan, Richard Hensel and his wife, Kristen, all of Southbury, and Craig Hensel and his girlfriend, Melissa, of Sandy Hook. He was loving uncle to all their children, Shane, Cameron, Riley, Aidan, Brady, Ryker, and Joey. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, at noon in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, with the Reverend Matt Crebbin officiating. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9 am to noon.
