Struck Fence And Trailer
Newtown Police report Danxi Sun, 23, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Nissan RGE, was traveling northbound on Narragansett Trail at 10:31 pm January 24. Sun’s vehicle traveled off the roadway into a wooden fence and trailer on Chipmunk Trail. Sun said her car slid on the snow covered roadway and could not stop.
No injuries were reported.
Sun received a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Head-On Collision
Newtown Police report Eueal Dagne, 42, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4matic, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:53 pm January 25. Mariel Reid, 34, of Trumbull, operating a 2022 Acura MDX A-Spec, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Andrew Murray, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, was turning left from Mt Pleasant Road onto Enclave Circle, crossing the southbound lane.
Dagne attempted to pass Murray on the left and entered the southbound lane of travel, where his vehicle had a head-on collision with Reid’s vehicle, causing it to spin facing in the opposite direction. Dagne’s vehicle also struck the rear driver side door of Murray’s vehicle immediately after hitting Reid’s vehicle.
Dagne was given an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Fender Bender While Backing
Newtown Police report Kathryn Charbonneau, 54, of Southbury, operating a 2018 Subaru Impreza Premium, was backing out of her parking space adjacent to Primrose Street at 12:55 pm January 26. Keven Anzellotti, 60, was traveling south on Primrose Street. The front bumper of Charbonneau’s vehicle struck the right side of Anzelloti’s vehicle in the process.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement was issued.
High Bridge Rear-Ender
Newtown Police report Peter Linley, 37, of Monroe, operating a 2012 Ford Fusion S, was traveling eastbound on High Bridge Road behind a 2011 Toyota Tundra D operated by Ali Shaham, 48, of Sandy Hook, at 4:44 pm January 26.
Shaham’s vehicle slowed, and the front end of Linley’s vehicle struck the rear end of her vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Linley received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Shaham received a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Volkswagen Off Road
Newtown Police report Erin Burbank, 23, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, was traveling southbound on Dinglebrook Lane at 5:59 pm January 28. Burbank was navigating a left hand curve when her vehicle went off the road to the right, running over a mailbox and coming to rest off the roadway on the edge of an embankment.
No injuries were reported.
Burbank was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Arrested For DUI
Newtown Police report at 10:33 pm January 28, officers responded to a report of an erratic driver. The driver of the vehicle, Marta Fragola, 31, of Bethel, was stopped and upon an investigation, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. While being placed under arrest, Fragola resisted officers and was charged with interfering with a police officer.
Fragola was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of February 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Slid In Snow, Hit Vehicle
Newtown Police report Katelyn Marcum, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Audi A4, was traveling northbound on Brushy Hill Road at 9:52 am January 30. Kevin Campbell, 48, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML350, was traveling south on Brushy Hill Road. Both vehicles approached a curve in the roadway from opposite directions by Dickinson Park. Marcum’s vehicle lost traction due to snowy road conditions, causing it to slide across the roadway and hit Campbell’s vehicle front to side.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was listed in the report.
Slid Into Car, Then Tree
Newtown Police report Jordyn Maddox, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Mazda3 Grand Touring, was traveling southbound on Brushy Hill Road at 6:03 pm January 30. Matthew Pelisson, 23, of Sandy Hook, was traveling eastbound on Castle Meadow Road and came to a stop past the stop sign, but still completely on Castle Meadow Road.
Maddox made a right turn towards Castle Meadow Road, when her vehicle started to slide on the snow covered roadway. Maddox’s vehicle entered the eastbound lane on Castle Meadow Road and the left side of her vehicle made contact with the left front fender, driver’s side door and side view mirror of Pelisson’s vehicle. Maddox’s vehicle then crossed over the westbound lane and onto the westbound shoulder of Castle Meadow Road where the front section of her vehicle struck a tree.
No injuries were reported.
Maddox was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Backed Into Vehicle
Newtown Police report Laura Betancourt, 28, of Southbury, operating a 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback, was attempting to make a left onto Church Hill Road from Mobil Gas Station at 1:30 pm January 31. Betancourt backed up her vehicle after noticing she was too far into the road, and backed into the side front bumper of a 2010 Volkswagen Golf operated by Stephanie Cuzino, 41, of Sandy Hook.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken.
