An opening reception took place at C.H. Booth Library on Sunday, February 4, for an exhibition of art featuring work by Newtown residents Roberta Shea, Stephanie Adam, and Carol Gaulin-McKenzie.The exhibition will remain on view in the Community Room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, until February 28. It can be viewed during regular library hours, when the room is not in use for meetings or programs: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 8 pm; Friday, 11 am to 5 pm; Saturday, 9:30 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 5 pm.For more information, call library at 203-426-4533.

Each artist was able to greet members of the public who attended the afternoon event. The artists also discussed their different artwork on display.

Ms Shea showcased her oil paintings and monotype print work, many of which were inspired by landscapes she saw while visiting Ireland.

She describes her work as "not literal" and that it instead focuses on "the feeling of the paint and brushstrokes."

In support of Ms Shea, fellow docents from New Britain Museum of American Art attended the opening reception to see her and view her work.

Also, on display as part of the presentation is a selection of Ms Adam's selection of acrylic paintings.

In Ms Adam's canvas piece called "Wooden Hangers," she says she used a variety of materials including medieval hinges, antique keys and keyholes, door handles, and four antique wood hangers to get the desired effect.

Next to that piece on display at the library is another of Ms Adam's canvas creations, "Door Knockers on Floor Grates." She says she was inspired to make its main color red because she made it around Christmastime.

On the other side of the art exhibit is Ms Gaudin-McKenzie's work of figurative collages/mixed media made of paper and oil pastels.

Her artwork titled "Girl on Swing" and "Grandma" are just a few of her pieces on display.

Since many of her art pieces are large - some are 4 feet by 6 feet according to her husband Doug - she is selling print sizes of her artwork.

In addition to all three artist featured in this month's exhibit being Newtown residents, they also happen to have been public school art teachers. Some of their students visited them during the exhibit's opening reception.

The library is closed Wednesday, February 7, due to the weather.
