Sandy Hook Reflections Competition Winners Announced
Five students from Sandy Hook Elementary School have been selected to compete in the 2000-2001 National PTA Reflections Program. This program is held annually and affords students an opportunity to demonstrate their talent and creativity.
This yearâs program coordinator was Patricia Ford, first vice president of the Sandy Hook PTA. More than 35 students in two grade divisions, K-2 and 3-5, submitted works that dealt with the theme âIt Would Be Really Scary Ifâ¦â The work submitted was based on one of four categories: literature, photography, visual arts, and music.
In grades K-2, the winning literature entrant was Will Northrop; in visual arts, Samantha Rappa. In grades 3-5, the winning literature entrant was Zoe Rabinowitz; in visual arts, Genna Rossi; in photography, Melissa Fracker. Several students were also given honorable mention awards. They include Traci Tamarkin, Nathan Stein, and Catharine Kappauf.
A committee of teachers judged all entries. The studentsâ entries will not be judged among the works of other students competing statewide.
