Stephen J. Csordas, Jr

Stephen J. Csordas, Jr, 79, of Bridgeport, husband of 53 years to Dorothy (Naum) Csordas, died February 6 in St Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport.

He was the father of Stephen Csordas of Newtown.

Born in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong resident. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp as a corporal. Mr Csordas retired from Schick Safety Razor of Milford where he worked as a quality control inspector for more than 13 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 141 in Trumbull and the Knights of Columbus Fr Coleman Circle in Fairfield, and was active all his life with youth and civic activities.

He was a communicant of St Andrew Church and the first president of the church’s Home School Association. Mr Csordas was co-founder of the 1966 champion Trumbull Troubadour Drum and Bugle Corps and chief counselor and vice state chairman for the Knights of Columbus Colombian Squires. For 30 years he held various offices in the Boy Scouts, including the post of chairman of the Sasco District and executive member of the Pomperaug Council and scoutmaster of Troop 52, St Stephen Church of Bridgeport. He was the recipient of scouting’s Silver Beaver Award, and two Catholic Church awards, the Bronze Pelican and the Cross of St George.

In 1964, Mr Csordas was named Knight of the year by the Knights of Columbus. During his retirement, he continued volunteer work visiting the sick at convalescent homes and hospitals. He loved children and enjoyed delighting each small child he met with magic tricks.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, and his son, Stephen, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Buzi of Monroe; four grandchildren, Gregory, Daniel and Christopher Buzi, and David Csordas; two sisters, Margaret Csordas of Ohio, and Elizabeth Csordas of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Andrew Church on Wednesday. Interment was in St Michael Cemetery.

Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
