Advocacy Workshop For Parents

NORWALK — The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorders (CACLD) is offering a basic workshop on effective advocacy for the parents of children newly identified with a learning disability or attention problems. The workshop will be offered on Thursday, February 17, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm as well as on Thursday, March 2, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

The workshops are free of charge and will be held at the CACLD Conference Room at 25 Van Zant Street in Norwalk.

The workshop will cover topics that every parent of a child newly identified with learning or attentional difficulties should know. They include: The Laws, IDEA and 504; Planning and Placement Team (PPT); Individualized Education Plan (IEP); Academic Modifications-Accommodations-Strategies; Inclusion; Other School Related Issues; Resources.

The session will be led by Val Lux. Mrs Lux is the assistant to the director of CACLD. For more than 30 years she has been an advocate for families of children with learning disabilities and/or attention disorders.
