Stable Management II Offered At Post University

WATERBURY – Stable Management II, the next course in the current series of evening courses running at Post University’s Equine Department will start on Monday, February 23 at 6:30 pm. This course is the companion course to the popular Stable Management I course, and covers topics ranging from barn organization and pasture care, to bedding and manure management. The course will also cover advice on recordkeeping and insurance requirements. There will be discussion on legal considerations and environmental impacts of horse keeping as well. The instructor for this course will be Gerrie Giunta, who has more than 20 years of experience in the horse industry, including teaching, barn management, Pony Club instruction, showing and hunting.

Any horse lovers and owners who wish to learn more information about efficient and responsible stable management are invited to apply for this course. The Equine Husbandry series of courses can be taken in any order and are open to anyone interested – no prerequisites are required. Each course runs for eight weeks, one evening per week for three hours. Students may earn CEU credits or take the courses for personal enrichment. The next unit – Stable Management II - will run Mondays, February 23 to April 13, from 6:30 to 9:20 pm on the Waterbury Campus of Post University (located near exit 17 off I-84). Classes meet in MacDermid Hall, which is a new location starting with this unit.

According to the Post University’s Equine Department,  while it is easy to find a place to ride, it is much harder to learn how to look after horses well. This husbandry series addresses this problem, as they cover the information horse owners require. Other courses in the series include Basic Horse Care, Stable Management I, Equine Health, Equine Anatomy and Horse Ownership. The series runs in a cycle throughout the year and continues in April with Equine Anatomy.

To earn CEU credits the cost is $500 – to audit the course, the cost is $350.

To register, or for more information, call the Equine Department at Post University 203-596-4631 or 203-596-4645, or email CBaker@Post.edu or ABloxsom@Post.edu.
