A Great Effort With A Sad Ending
A Great Effort With A Sad Ending
To the Editor:
The search for our beautiful black greyhound, Elwood, has come to an end. His body was found Saturday, January 31, morning by our neighbor in the woods. There are no words to describe the grief our family is feeling at the loss of our beloved pet. It has been five long weeks of searching and hoping to which there is no happy ending.
We would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who took time during last five weeks, including Christmas and New Yearâs Day, to help us search for Elwood. These volunteers were not only from our greyhound group, Greyhound Rescue and Rehab (GRR), but also from other local greyhound and animal groups. These amazing people came from all over the state of Connecticut and New York to help us. They stood out in the cold, walked through snowy woods, and never gave up. We are forever grateful.
We would also like to thank all the local businesses for allowing up to put flyers up in their stores. A special thank you to Jim Walsh for allowing us to set up a feeding station and trap when we thought Elwood was in his mulch yard. Thank you to Nancy Crevier of The Newtown Bee for doing two wonderful articles on Elwood. Thank you to Dawn Adams for spearheading the search and to GRR President Christine Johnson. Both provided unending support.
Thank you also to the residents of Newtown for joining in our search by calling and reporting sightings. Many people took time to talk with the volunteers about the search and each time a group of volunteers returned to our house they would say âEveryone is so nice here.â Way to go Newtown!
Sincerely,
The Pansa Family
