‘SOMETHING WICKED’ ON VIEW AT CH’I CONTEMPORARY FINE ART

avv/gs set 2/6 #727617

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — February marks the opening of two solo exhibitions — “Something Wicked Comes this Way,” drawings by Kevin Bourgeois, and “Suspended Animations,” sculptures by Arthur Mednick — at Ch’i Contemporary Fine Art. Both exhibitions run through March 10 at the gallery’s Williamsburg location of 293 Grand Street between Roebling and Havemeyer.

“Something Wicked Comes This Way” marks Bourgeois’ first solo exhibition at Ch’i Contemporary Fine Art. His graphite drawings use a combination of photorealism, illustration and pop symbolism resulting in sociopolitical works. Creating a visual narrative of contemporary societal complexities, each piece presents interwoven juxtaposed scenes of technology human nature, individuality consumer culture and superficiality/altruism.

“Suspended Animation” features new wall works by steel sculptor Arthur Mednick. In this latest installation of mixed series, Mednick’s diminutive works are more fully rendered yet continue to defy specific interpretation. While suggesting meaning, they steadfastly refuse to be categorized as either representative or abstract, reflecting the artist’s desire to have the experience of the object be its only significance.
