GIRLS 5TH/6TH GRADE

 

WATERTOWN 35, NEWTOWN 29: Amy Kelley scored eight points, Jill Logan added seven, and Darcy Fiscella chipped in with six in a loss to Watertown.

NEWTOWN 47, DANBURY 13: Samantha Wong canned 10 points (including a pair of three-pointers) as Newtown broke open the game in the second half. Jill Logan scored 11 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for a double-double effort. Kelly Tenney added four points and played a great all-around game.

MONROE 39, NEWTOWN 35 (OT): Newtown came back from an eight-point, second-half deficit to send the game into overtime. Darcy Fiscella had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three steals to lead the way. Amy Kelley canned eight points and Christie Iwanicki added five. Jill Logan grabbed nine rebounds and Erin Ruddock had a solid performance.

BOYS 5TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 38, EASTON 33: Michael Maher scored 15 points and Greg Rodden added 10 more as Newtown slipped past Easton. Kevin Troy and Danny Giorno combined for 12 more points as Newtown had to hold Easton off at the end. Matt Boland, Jerod Modzelewski and Matt Mascola led the defense.

NEWTOWN 45, DARIEN 34: Jason Smith scored 13 points while Kevin Troy, Michael Maher and Greg Rodden combined for 20 more to lead Newtown to the win. Bobby Lapple had a fine floor game as Matt Boland, PJ Cochrane and Danny Smith played well on defense.

MONROE 51, NEWTOWN 48: A superb team effort wasn’t enough to carry Newtown past a tough Monroe opponent. Danny Smith scored 21 points and Kevin Troy, Jason Smith and Matt Boland combined for 18 more in the loss.

BOYS 6TH GRADE

 

BLUE DEVILS 55, FAIRFIELD YMCA 32: Ryan McGrath scored 11 points and made a game-high eight steals to lead the Blue Devils past Fairfield. Kevin Regan and Brian Conroy each registered double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds apiece. Tucker Kass, Mike Kennedy, and Joe Bowen were strong off the glass while Tad Pierson and Jack Quinn led the defense. Joey DeVellis and Justin Miller each knocked down a three-pointer for the 15-1 Blue Devils.

BOYS 7TH GRADE

 

WESTPORT 65, NEWTOWN 40: Tommy Wilson scored nine points and Stephen Kean added seven, but Newtown fell to a tough Westport team. Marc Ingerman, Alister Ratcliff and Alex Caruso combined for 16 points.

NEWTOWN 49, JOCKEY HOLLOW 37: Alister Ratcliff poured in a season-high 14 points to lead Newtown past Jockey Hollow of Monroe. Drew Harmata added 10 points while Marc Ingerman chipped in with nine. .

BROADVIEW 71, NEWTOWN 40: Marc Ingerman scored 14 points and made four steals but Newtown fell to Broadview. Drew Adamek and Drew Harmata posted eight points apiece with Harmata also coming down with nine rebounds.

GIRLS 7TH/8TH GRADE

 

BROOKFIELD 48, NEWTOWN 22: Vicky Thomas pumped in 11 points (along with two three-pointers) to lead Newtown. Melissa Russell and Aime Walston played well on D.

NEWTOWN 38, WESTON 15: Sarah Holroyd canned nine points while Erica Helsel and Melisa Russell combined for 12 more to lead Newtown. Rachel Eastman played solid defense and added a nice bucket on a move through a double team.

DARIEN 31, NEWTOWN 27: Rose Jackman and Vicky Thomas combined for 15 points, but Newtown fell to Darien. Lindsay Weber and Kimberly Solheim were solid on D.

NEWTOWN 36, NEW FAIRFIELD 31: Rose Jackman scored 11 points and Vicky Thomas and Sarah Holroyd combined for 17 more to pace Newtown. Kimberly Solheim, Lindsay Weber and Rachel Eastman sparked the defense.

GIRLS 8TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 40, SOUTHBURY 30: Ashley Larocque scored 12 points and Jackie Curran added nine to lead Newtown to the win. Siobhan Cooper chipped in with eight points. Jackie Ercole was strong on defense while Katie O’Connor and Jessica Palermo played well off the glass, collecting 14 rebounds. Newtown ran its record to 16-0 with the victory.

BRISTOL 47, NEWTOWN 42: Newtown let a 10-point lead slip away and suffered its first loss of the season to a tough Bristol squad. Ashley Larocque tossed in 16 points while Siobhan Cooper added 10 and Meghan Kelley chipped in with five. Courtney Brunton, Megan LaFlamme and Emily Nezvesky had fine floor games.
