Hockey Wizard On The Ice

Newtown’s Michael McCann, a fourth grader at Middle Gate Elementary School, is a first-year defenseman for the Wonderland Wizards Squirt B hockey team, which won its division in the National Youth Hockey League Challenge Cup Tournament in Marlboro, Mass during the weekend of January 29-30.

The Wizards, who are based out of Wonderland Of Ice in Bridgeport, faced teams from Maine and Connecticut over the course of the three day tournament.  The Wizards demonstrated excellent defense and a strong offense to win all of their games. They defeated the West Hartford Wolves 3-2 in a closely-contested finale to take the championship. 

This is the second Tournament Championship win for the Wizards Squirt B team. The team also won the Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament in Newington earlier this season.
