Annual Student Police Academy Starting
The police departmentâs Student Police Academy program was scheduled to start its annual program on February 3, providing some Newtown High School students with an overview of local law enforcement as it relates to the criminal justice system. The program will be conducted once weekly for a ten-week period.
Topics that students will explore include becoming a police officer, motor vehicle laws, drinking-and-driving laws, motor vehicle accident reconstruction, and others.
The subject matter will be taught by town police officers, as well as personnel from state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Police Officer Jason Flynn, who is the school resource officer at the high school, is the academy coordinator.
