Writing Workshop With Vicinanza
Writing Workshop With Vicinanza
BETHEL â The Wednesday Night Poetry Series will have a special writing workshop in place of a featured reader on February 9.
Poets of all backgrounds and interests should bring paper and pen, and leave their internal critics at home. The workshop will meet at the regular WNPS location, Bethel Arts Junction â the old Bethel train station, at 5 Depot Place (immediately off Greenwood Avenue). It will be directed by Faith Vicinanza, a/k/a The Connecticut Poet.
Admission to the Wednesday Night Poetry Series is usually $1 for a local poet, or $3 for a featured poet who has had to travel a distance. Donations of at least $1 will be requested for the writing workshop.
The evening will run from 7:30 to 10 pm. An hour-long open mic will begin the evening, and will also follow the workshop.
âIf you need a little inspiration, here is your prime opportunity,â promises Mrs Vicinanza.
Mrs Vicinanza, who lives in Newtown, is a master teaching artist for the Commission on Tourism and Art as well as the co-founder and co-director of Creative Beginnings, a partnership between Mrs Vicinanza and Joan Gleckler that offers a variety of writing workshops around the state of Connecticut for accomplished and beginning writers.
She regularly teaches in schools and at libraries across the state.
WNPS usually features accomplished poets and new voices from around the world, offering an opportunity for poetic discourse with the featured poet(s), one of the hottest open poetry mics in the state, and a poetry critique workshop in a warm, friendly atmosphere where poets can experience sharing their work with others while receiving encouragement. WNPS celebrated its ninth anniversary last year.
WNPS will begin offering writing workshops on a regular basis this year. Mrs Vicinanza will also be teaching the next workshop, which will be on March 30.
For additional information about the workshop or the regular Wednesday poetry series contact Mrs Vicinanza at 426-3388 or leave a message at Bethel Arts Junction, 748-2828.
