Storm Statutes
Town officials remind residents whose property encompasses a town sidewalk that those sidewalks must be cleared by the homeowners within a reasonable amount of time following winter storms.
Officials also reminded all Newtown residents and business owners that it is a violation of state and town statutes to push or shovel snow onto public roadways. Violators are subject to a $50 fine.
The town also has an ordinance that prohibits overnight parking, from sunset to sunrise, on local roads from November 15 through March 15. The law was enacted to make it simpler for town road crews to keep local streets plowed and clear of snow during snowstorms. Parking tickets carry a $49 fine.
