Post Office Plans Passport Day, Tercentennial Cancellation
Post Office Plans Passport Day,
 Tercentennial Cancellation
The US Postal Service is planning to hold a US Passport Day at the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, on Saturday, February 12, from 10 am to 3 pm.
The public is invited to apply for passports or renew existing passports. Applications will be available in advance at both the library and the post office at 5 Commerce Street.
Also available will be a limited supply of Ronald Reagan stamps, Marion Anderson stamps, envelopes and post cards that can be cancelled with the postal serviceâs special cancellation commemorating the Newtown Tercentennial.
âThis cancellation depicts the flag pole, a church steeple, and another building along with the year. This will be a real collectorâs item,â said Paul Marciniak, postmaster.
The Newtown Post Office also is issuing its first newsletter explaining this event as well as other events and news from the post office. This newsletter will be available at the post office and the library.
Anyone who has questions about passports or the special cancellation should call the post office at 426-4271.
