NHS Career Center

Lists Available Scholarships

The Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships, typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application.

The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships.

If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises that he or she first check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP, the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org or 800-876-7060, or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbg.org or 703-276-0100.

Humane Society Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship — A college scholarship for $1,500 will be awarded to a graduating high school senior from New England who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection over a significant period of time. Applications should be written in letter form and include a narrative of the student’s achievements in animal protection, as well as a discussion of his or her attitude toward animals. Documentation of the activities cited, recommendations from at least three people, and a description of the future plans in humane work are required. The Career Center has basic information. The deadline for applications is March 15.

Associated General Contractors of Connecticut — This is a two-year scholarship program with a total value of $5,000 per recipient. The scholarship provides $2,500 for both freshman and sophomore years of college tuition and two summers of related work experience with an AGC contractor. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors entering a four-year building technology or civil engineering program as a freshman or entering a two-year technical school with a construction course of study with the intent of completing study at a four-year college. All applications are due by March 31.
