Miller Gallery Is Showcasing A Winter
Diversion With Its New Exhibition
WOODBURY â P.H. Miller Studio & Gallery, at 495 Main Street South (Route 6), will present âWinterludes,â a revolving group exhibit featuring selected gallery-represented artists, until March 30.
A play on words, the title of the exhibit describes a Winter-Interlude, or a break in the coldest season of the year. The fresh, bright pieces exhibited in the show will offer a welcome respite from the seemingly bleak outdoors.
During the exhibitâs 11-week period, the show will change periodically, as to always keep the vistas changing within the gallery.
Owner Peter H. Miller states: âIt has always been important to include only work that has never been shown before in the Winter shows. And although rotating inventory is valuable, itâs essential that our artists keep new work coming so that the gallery is consistently current.â
Gabo Rodriguez, one of the many intriguing artists featured in âWinterludes,â composes somewhat abstract, yet architectural scenes.
Equally alluring, but very different in subject matter are Joy Bristolâs small dessert paintings. Each piece seems to create all of the senses stirred when walking into a hometown diner. Mini blueberry muffins rest just inside a window to cool and a pair of donuts nestle together on a warm, pink plate.
Ms Bristol paints on Monhegan Island, Me., for the summer months and has always come back to Connecticut with landscapes capturing the character of the island. These are the first in a series of interior still-lifes with which she has returned.
Also included in âWinterludesâ are the classic landscapes of Thomas C. Adkins, a very well-known and sought after regional artist. Mr Adkinsâ paintings depict views of New England with its warm, lustrous sunlight.
Robert Holden, also a traditional painter, will showcase some of his newest still lifes. As was the method of the great Dutch masters, Mr Holden paints with only a Northern light source. Thus, his work always has both deep, dark backgrounds and reflective, luminous subject matter.
Wholly bright and fresh, all of the pieces in âWinterludesâ create a grand diversion from the frosty temperatures outside. A total of ten artists are featured.
