Marion Ruth Shapiro

Marion Ruth Shapiro, 92, a recent resident of the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, Vt., formerly of Newtown, died at her residence on January 16. She was born in Philadelphia, Penn., July 4, 1912, a daughter of Emil and Jenny (Davis) Thim.

She grew up in Queens, N.Y., and graduated from Woodhaven High School. She married Morris Shapiro in Newburgh, N.Y., and spent much of her life in Newtown.

Mrs Shapiro worked many years as a librarian in the White Plains Public Library. In her free time she enjoyed reading, her dogs, and trips to the ocean.

Mrs Shapiro is survived by her husband, Morris, of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington; and her son, Joel Shapiro of Bondville, Vt. She is also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held January 17 at Vermont Veterans Home Chapel in Bennington. A graveside service of committal followed in the Manchester Israel Congregation section of the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Rabbi Bob Freedman of the Israel Congregation officiated.
