It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert C. Gaffney (Bobby) on January 30, 2025.

He is survived by his loving children, Bobby and Katy Gaffney (their mother, Cyndi Gaffney); his beloved mother, Virginia M. Gaffney; his sisters, Patty Gaffney, Janet Gaffney Hames; brother-in-law Jody Hames; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is now reunited with his father, James J. Gaffney, II, and brother, James (Jimmy) Gaffney, III, along with other loved ones who have passed before him.

Bobby was a deeply beloved father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, as he always hoped it would be.

Born in Cherry Hill, N.J., on September 14, 1964, he grew up in Monroe, ultimately making Newtown his home. Bobby was a kind, generous, thoughtful, and loving man who dedicated his life to caring for his family and often put others before himself. While we lost our most beloved Father (aka our Dadness), many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at silly humor, and once you were marked as important to him, he’d be by your side if you needed him no matter what happened in your life. There was so much more to him than just Dad, though to us, that was his greatest role — he was also a loyal friend, coworker, and colleague.

Bobby was a lifelong animal lover with a passion for fishing, cooking, gardening, tinkering, spending time with his loved ones, and being in nature. He had a warm smile and a contagious laugh that could light up any room. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bobby will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and his memory will live on through all he shared with us during his much too short but well-lived life. May he rest in peace.

The visiting hours will be Friday, February 7, from 4 to 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. A Service will be conducted at Newtown Congregational Church on Saturday, February 8, at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bobby’s memory to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas TX 75231, or Labs4Rescue, PO Box 955, Killingworth CT 06419.

Robert C. Gaffney (Bobby) of Newtown died suddenly and unexpectedly on January 30, 2025.
