Newtown High School’s gymnastics team came out on top in a pair of competitions, at Newtown Gymnastics Academy on January 27 and at New Milford two days later.

The Nighthawks defeated visiting Joel Barlow of Redding and Bethel in the first of the two meets. Newtown scored 134.85 points, Barlow had 67.65, and Bethel 57.05. Brianna Schoffstall was first with an all around score of 36.25. Schoffstall had an 8.4 on vault, 9.3 on bars, 9.55 on beam, and 9.0 on floor, taking first in all but the vault (second).

Aliyah Reuther was second with an all around of 34.85. She had an 8.1 on vault, 8.9 on bars, 9.1 on beam, and 8.75 on floor. Kelsey Brennan was fourth with an all around of 31.65. Brennan scored an 8.2 on vault, 7.5 on bars, 8.1 on beam, and 7.85 for her floor routine. Eva Fenaroli had an 8.2 on vault, 6.45 on bars, 7.5 on beam, and 7.5 on floor. Camila Collesian scored an 8.1 on vault, 6.9 on bars, 6.8 on beam, and 7.5 on floor.

In the visit to New Milford, the Nighthawks scored 131.75; New Milford finished with 112.65, Brookfield finished with 99.05, and Danbury had 68.1. Schoffstall again was first in the all around with a score of 35.2. She scored an 8.3 on vault, 9.0 on bars, 9.5 for her balance beam routine, and 8.4 for the floor exercise.

Reuther was second with an all around score of 33.25. She registered an 8.5 on vault, 8.65 on bars, 7.2 on beam, and 8.9 on the floor. Brennan came in third with an all around score of 32.0. Brennan logged an 8.5 on vault, 8.0 on bars, 7.3 on beam, and 8.2 on floor.

Sadie Boyajian recorded a 7.7 on vault, 7.55 on bars, 7.4 on the beam, and 7.8 on floor. Collesian had an 8.1 on vault, 7.3 on bars, 7.1 on beam, and 7.9 on the floor. Fenaroli had an 8.3 on vault, 7.0 on bars, 7.35 on beam, and 6.8 on floor.

Next up for the Nighthawks is the South-West Conference Championships at New Milford High on Friday, February 9, starting at 5 pm.
