New Fire Hydrants Could Lower Insurance Rates

The fire marshal’s office is recommending that certain residents and businesses in Sandy Hook Center, especially those located on Washington Avenue, Glen Road, and Riverside Road which are within 1,000 feet of recently installed fire hydrants, notify their insurance companies of those fire hydrants’ presence.

Having a pressurized fire hydrant within 1,000 feet of a given property may result in decreased fire insurance rates for that property, according to the fire marshal.

Last summer, the public water supply network in Sandy Hook Center was expanded, including the installation of some new fire hydrants.
