Founder Of DATAR (Ability Beyond Disability)
Dorothy R. Myers, 87, wife of the late Norris H. Myers of Sandy Hook, died January 28. She was born July 17, 1924, in Bethany, a daughter of Olive E. (Short) and Arthur E. Russell.
Mrs Myersâ greatest joy was her family. She was a homemaker and caregiver all of her life. As one of the founders of DATAR, later to become Ability Beyond Disability, she was employed for numerous years and devoted herself to making the world a better place for handicapped and mentally challenged children and adults.
Her daughters Barbara Schenzer, and husband Daniel, of Sandy Hook and Janet Myers of Torrington; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Sidney, and wife Edna, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Ernest, and wife Mary, of Bethany; a sister, Ruby DeCosta of Prospect; and four sisters-in-law survive Mrs Myers. Eight siblings and one grandson predeceased her.
A service was held January 31.
