International Magnet School Opening
DANBURY â The Boards of Education from Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, and Redding invite parents to apply for enrollment for their child at the new Western Connecticut Academy of International Studies Elementary Magnet School.
The school will offer a kindergarten through fifth grade curriculum of global studies located in a new facility in Danbury, adjacent to the wooded westside campus of Western Connecticut State University.
The first year, the 2006-07 school year, the school will be for grades kindergarten through fourth grade. In the second year the school will expand to include the fifth grade.
The school will operate under the state guidelines as a Public School of Choice. It will be managed by a representative Advisory Trustee Board and governed by the Danbury Board of Education. A childâs selection to the school will be by application and a lottery.
The International Studies Elementary Magnet School will open in September. Applications are now available for the selection of students. A packet of more detailed information about the school is available from the individual school districts participating.
Dr Bonnie Rabe will make a presentation to parents interested in the new magnet school on Monday, February 13, at 7 pm in the Reed Intermediate School media center.
Applications are available at the central office of the local school districts and at all elementary schools in Danbury, and online at www.Danbury.k12.ct.us. The application deadline is Friday, March 3.
